Slow Flowers presents American Flowers Week

For the fourth consecutive year, American Flowers Week (AFW) highlights local flowers and the people who grow and design with them. Founded in 2015 as a grassroots social media campaign, AFW has gained momentum across the U.S., with the hashtag #americanflowersweek generating more than 5 million impressions in 2017.

From Alaska to Florida; from Hawaii to Maine, including (Your State Here), seasonal and sustainable flowers are the celebration’s focus. The event invites flower farmers, florists and floral enthusiasts to feature domestic flowers across social media platforms.

“Red, white and blue blooms and bouquets are encouraged,” says campaign founder Debra Prinzing of Slow Flowers. “It’s a time to show off the best of the season’s blooms and shine a light on domestic floral agriculture and eco-friendly floral design. The week leading up to Independence Day allows us to highlight local flowers in all 50 states.”

American Flowers Week is the advocacy, education and outreach campaign produced by Debra Prinzing and Slowflowers.com, the free, nationwide, online directory to American Flowers and the people who grow and design with them.

Inspired by the success of British Flowers Week, American flowers advocate and journalist Debra Prinzing created the U.S. version of the domestic flowers promotion campaign. She originally launched American Flowers Week in 2015, selecting the week coinciding with America’s Independence Day, from June 28th – July 4th as her timing.
